1. Genuine Leather: Durable and Breathable

Our sandals use durable cowhide leather, high-quality calf leather, or soft elk leather. The advantages of genuine leather are obvious: it adapts wonderfully to the feet and provides a comfortable wearing experience. Since it is also durable and hard-wearing, the sandals are reliable companions on various outings and don’t wear out quickly. Additionally, genuine leather is especially breathable and allows the foot to breathe. Especially in the summer months, leather sandals offer a well-deserved break for the feet, preventing excessive sweating.

Our sandals use both suede and smooth leather. Depending on your preference, you benefit from the different properties of the materials:

• What is smooth leather? With smooth leather, the grain side is processed outward, resulting in a fine, even surface. Due to gentle treatment, smooth leather is particularly high quality and retains its natural properties. It is robust yet elastic and comfortable, adapting to the movement of the foot.
   

• What is suede leather? There are different types of suede leather. Nubuck leather has a soft, velvety surface created by lightly buffing during processing. It leaves a visible streak when you run your finger over it. The surface of velour leather, on the other hand, is somewhat rougher, which increases the breathability of the pores. This creates the characteristic suede look. Suede leather usually feels soft and velvety and, thanks to its elasticity, fits wonderfully to the foot.

2. Optimal foot health through an anatomical footbed

We are very committed to ensuring that our sandals promote good foot health. Because especially when shoes are worn often and with pleasure, they should ideally support the feet while walking. That’s why all our leather sandals feature an anatomically shaped cork-latex footbed. It has a soft core zone with a ball heel and perfected toe grip. For the feet, this means they are optimally held in the footprint and thus step correctly.

The sturdy and durable rubber sole also provides shock absorption and a secure step. They offer maximum comfort and active muscle support even after intensive wear. Especially for long days at the office, leather sandals are an ideal solution!

Organic leather for our sandals: guaranteed sustainable

Sustainability is very important at Haflinger! That’s why we are very careful to produce our leather sandals in an especially environmentally friendly way and to use only high-quality and natural materials. Haflinger sandals are meant to be not only comfortable but also sustainable. Therefore, we place great value on the following factors:

✓ Vegetable-tanned calf leather: For the lining of the sandals, we use only vegetable-tanned calf leather. The tanning agents consist exclusively of natural raw materials.

✓ Environmentally friendly production: While most leather worldwide is produced using chemical tanning methods, Haflinger relies on a longer, natural tanning process. This method is much more environmentally friendly and sustainable, as no harmful substances enter water bodies and the environment, unlike chemical processes.

✓ Especially skin-friendly: Thanks to the natural and pollutant-free tanning process, the leather is very skin-friendly and provides a pleasant wearing comfort.

How to clean leather sandals: here’s how it’s done

It's common with sandals: after prolonged wear, the footbed usually darkens because it absorbs sweat, dust, and dirt. However, the insole of the shoes can be easily cleaned again. Simply take warm soapy water and a soft brush to gently remove the residues.

Our tip: Apply a paste made of water and baking soda to the insole and let it sit for a while. Then rinse it off with water and let the sandals dry thoroughly. This will brighten the insole and make it look like new again!

The upper material can also be cleaned. Depending on whether it is suede or smooth leather, you should proceed differently.

• Cleaning smooth leather: Sandals made of smooth leather are easy to clean and require little maintenance. Coarse dirt can be simply removed with a fine brush and a damp cloth. However, make sure the cloth is not too wet, as the leather should not become too moist!
   

• Cleaning suede leather: Soft suede leather requires a bit more care. Coarse dirt can be easily removed with a fine brush. If possible, you should not clean the sandals when wet. After some wear, grease spots may appear as the small fibers of the suede stick together. Therefore, suede leather should be regularly brushed with a special brush to keep the sandals looking good.
   

Note: Leather sandals should not be washed in the washing machine or dried in the dryer!
